Next Session: October 20th

Competency-based learning: Navigating the gap between facilitating self-evaluation and providing feedback for growth with Dr. Patricia Robey

Glasser’s conditions for quality in education include establishing need-satisfying relationships, assuring that learning is useful and relevant, and encouraging self-evaluation by learners. However, in the learning journey, many of us lack all the information we need for accurate self-evaluation. This information can be regarding areas for improvement but also areas of strength. In this presentation, Pat will share some ideas of what conditions need to be in place in order to facilitate self-evaluation and deliver feedback. Come prepared to engage in discussion and share your own ideas while participating in this learning experience!

There are two time slots, 1300 UTC & 2100 UTC. Please register on the right for the time slot you wish to attend.

About WGI Professional Development/Continuing Education for Faculty 2022

WGI’s Training Committee is so thrilled to announce a new initiative for faculty. It’s been almost nine years since Dr. Glasser’s passing and I don’t know about you, but we sure miss his brilliance, his guidance, his humor, and for some, his love and friendship. One of the main things we remember is how he always kept us at the edge of our comfort zones with his new thinking for that year. Just when you thought you understood his ideas, he added new thoughts every year that caused us to stretch and grow. We need that to keep WGI alive.

Goals:

That is what the Training Committee wants to do—create a safe environment for faculty to learn and grown in. We want to help enhance relationships between faculty, while sharing relevant information to expand understanding and integration. We will offer opportunities for discussion with colleagues on the new information that we hope will lead to questions that encourage curiosity and growth. Finally, we plan for you to have multiple takeaways in the form of practice or exploration activities.

We will be offering regular bi-monthly gatherings for faculty in two different time slots: 1300 and 2100 UTC, starting on February 24, 2022. You will be able to sign up for either session, which will be presented on Zoom.

Format:

Each session will begin with a welcome piece that includes time for general sharing and connecting. Then, a faculty-level speaker for the event will share some new information or perspectives for the faculty to ponder. Next, we will use small breakout rooms so the information can be discussed with a smaller, intimate group. Finally, the groups will summarize their discussions and ask questions that will lead to clarity and expansion of thinking. There will be a summary of takeaways and closure. It will be recorded and we will put the sessions on the website for your later viewing.

This is WGI’s gift to our faculty. We realize faculty is the life blood of the WGI. Without all of you, there would be no WGI. We want you to know much you are appreciated and we thought having these professional development/continuing education sessions would be a great way to give back to you.

If you plan to attend, please register by picking one of the time slots on the right. Once you do, you will be provided the Zoom information for the session you registered for and a link to a document you will want to read prior to the session.

We look forward to seeing you there.
